How to analyse image?

D - Describe

I - Interpret

E - Evaluate

T - Theorize

Describe

- Observe the image, look at the details

- The shapes, the colour, the texture, the position of people/ objects

Interpret

- Before interpreting, write down some questions by using 5W1H

- Try to answer the questions

- Interpret it, what do you think the photographer try to said? What is the story he/she would like to give through the image?

Evaluate

- Evaluate the image

- How the visual elements in the image can support your interpretation

- The emotion that you feel from the image

Theorize

- Investigate values, beliefs, attitudes and customs. How can that relate to the image?

- What is the message that you can get from your interpretation/ image?

Above all are the ways that I had learn during my class. Our lecturer taught us how to analyse image. After that, she wanted us form a group in 2. She gave us a picture and she wanted us to analyse it.

These are what my classmate and I tried to analyse for the image. Basically we came out a story about black magic. As you can see , there was a fisherman who was standing in a flying boat. He caught the stars and moon. We tried to interpret that the man want the light of the moon and starts, so that he could find the treasures under the sea. The message that we would like to bring out through this image is we may be willing to do anything in order to get something that we want, no matter we know that we are going to hurt someone else.
