Is it urban sketching just include architecture? That was what I thought when I saw the question which was posted on blackboard.
For me, I think urban sketching is drawing what you have observed. Of course you can draw the building or anything you have seen. Even though something there is moving, you can draw it down as a urban sketching. For example, car and people. You can draw something or someone that you observe and you think what is interesting. By drawing it down, you will observe more details.
Sometimes, sketching can inspire you. You may get some new ideas when you are drawing. OR when you look back what you have drawn, you may get some ideas as well.
We had an activity during design process class. We went out from class, and started sketching. After sketching, we put our sketching on the floor and our lecturer had told us what should we improve.
Then, our lecturer asked us walked around our college and drew at least three sketching.
Here were what I sketched. The first sketching, a girl kept playing her phone but not doing her assignment although she had opened her laptop. I think that was what most people had done in our college, so I sketched down what I saw. The red colour pen was represent the attractive of the phone.
The second sketching, there were a boy and a girl sitting in front of me. I thought they were doing assignment. There were many Majong paper on the table. I heard someone asked them whether he/she could sit beside them, but they refused. They said that they had to use this roll of table. I was just like "OMG!" I sketched this situation down and highlight the Majong paper, as the paper was the leading role, right? HAHAHAH
The third sketching, a boy was listening to the music, and his fcae shown how tired he was. There was no one around him and he face expression was telling me that he didn't want to do anything now.
