Group Activity (Week 3)

In today class, we have a group activity. We are asked to read some resources on interviews. I am in group 6, and we have three people in this group. Therefore, each of us read one article. I choose an article which is about survey research.

Survey research including quantitative and qualitative method. First, the variables of interest are measured using self-reports. Second, considerable attention is paid to the issue of sampling. It is a flexible approach that can be used to study a wide variety of basic and applied research questions. Survey research has its roots in applied social research, market research, and election polling. It is an important approach in many academic disciplines, such as political science, sociology, public health, and psychology. Survey research can be non-experimental OR experimental, it up to your topic.

After reading the articles, we are asked to take down the note and write it in the jam board. My group mates have done two mind map about qualitative interview technique and designing effective questions and questionnaires. To design effective question for interview, we should ask the questions which are related to our projects. We should also plan the question flow, the questions shouldn't be too boring or too explicit. And also, we should have response options and avoid neutral respondents. Besides, the qualitative interview techniques are we should have interview guide, field note and journalling, and prepare open-ended question. We should contain some outline of the topic to cover during interview. The techniques of prepare open-ended question is to avoid yes or no question, allow the respondents to share their information in their own words and also try to avoid phrasing questions. After reading the jam board, I learn many new information about interview. I think these information/note could help me to do interview in future.
