This week, we learn about quantitative research and also how we can organise our data by using L.A.C.T.H. method.

L.A.C.T.H.

L (Location)

Organising information based on space or place, such as maps

A (Alphabet)

Organising information based on the first alphabet

C (Categorise)

Organising information base on their types

T (Time)

Using timeline to organise information

H (Hierarchy)

Organising Information in order

We are asked to complete an activity which is we have to observe and track our daily habit and visualising it by using the L.A.C.T.H. method. We have to track from Monday until Thursday. For me, I would like to track about "The frequency of using phone".

Observe and Track

I try to write down the time and what I do when I am using my phone. And here are what I have tracked:

Visualising

I am using time and categorise to organise my data. I use different colour to represent different thing I do, and the size of the circle represent how long I use the phone. The bigger the circle is, the longer the time I use my phone. I will draw the circle based on the time line as well.

Here is how I categorise the thing I do by using colour:

Red - Reply Message

Orange - Play game

Yellow - Watch Video

Green - Read Novel

Blue - Set Alarm

Purple - Close Alarm

Grey - Others

Before I doing this activity, I thought I may use my phone frequently. However, after this activity, I realise that I spend my time on using laptop more than phone. As you can see, the orange circle is the biggest circle in my daily life. I like to use my phone to play game, and this is a way for me to release my stress.

While I am doing this activity, most of the time I will forget to write down what I have do at that moment. For example, on Monday, I forget to write down I reply message using phone, and I have to look back and find the time of replying message.

Hi Elaine, I like how your data viz is clean and neat, and easy to understand. 👍🏻 Maybe to make it richer, you could include one more "hat" from L.A.T.C.H? Such as the location of where you used your phone too. Question yourself with your research methods how you can gather as much data from different perspectives so that your analysis in the end will be more interesting and enlightening about your topic :)
