I start doing research about LGBT topic, which I choose for the T&T project. I try to research about its history and culture as a wide content.
Important/famous event : Stonewall riots
Stonewall riots took place at the clandestine gay club Stonewall Inn. It was large, cheap, allowed dancing and welcomed drag queens and homeless youths. In the early hours of June 28, 1969, New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn. Fed up with years of police harassment, patrons and neighborhood residents began throwing objects at police as they loaded the arrested into police vans. The scene eventually exploded into a full-blown riot, with subsequent protests that lasted for five more days.
Did Judy Garland's sparked Stonewall riots?
Some people said that Judy Garland's sparked Stonewall riots and the birth of gay liberation movement; some said not. But why they related Judy Garland with Stonewall riots?
Judy Garland had many fans who were homosexualities. She was widely considered as a gay icon. On the night of her funeral, in June 1969, the Stonewall Riots occurred. The patrons of the Stonewall used their grief over Judy’s death to rise up and fight. The gay liberation movement was born.
However, there were still some people disagree about it. They think that Judy Garland's death did not spark Stonewall riots. The truth is, it depends who you ask.
Rainbow Flag
As we all know rainbow flag is a symbol of LGBT communities. This flag may have been inspired, in part, by Judy Garland's song "Over the Rainbow". This is another connection to let people relate Judy Garland with LGBT communities. Judy Garland's performance of this song has been described as "the sound of the closet", speaking to gay men whose image "they presented in their own public lives was often at odds with a truer sense of self that mainstream society would not condone".

Christopher Street Liberation Day
In 1970, at the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, New York City community members (members from Mattachine Society, which split off from the Gay Liberation Front, and other similar groups) marched through local streets in commemoration of the event. Named the Christopher Street Liberation Day, the march is now considered the country’s first gay pride parade. Activists also turned the once-disreputable Pink Triangle into a symbol of gay pride.

Why people related gay with AIDS?
On June 8,1981, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a report about five previously healthy homosexual men infected with AIDS. Since then, it has been found that the probability of AIDS transmission between gay men is higher than that of other AIDS transmission methods, such as heterosexual behaviour, blood transmission and mother-to-child transmission. At the same time, the probability of gay men spreading AIDS is much greater than that of female-lesbian men.
AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), but why is HIV easily transmitted between men and gay men? Davey M. Smith, an associate professor of infectious diseases and director of the virus pathogenesis research center of the University of California San Diego AIDS Research Center (CFAR), has revealed some mysteries. For example, HIV in seminal plasma in the form of RNA, it is spread among men who have sex with men.
Gay Marriage Legalised
Massachusetts was the first state to legalise gay marriage. The first legal same-sex marriage was performed on May 17, 2004. There were 77 other couples were getting marriage on that day. Gay marriage was finally ruled legal by the Supreme Court (in U.S) in June 2015.
Now, there are many countries legalise same sex marriage such as Taiwan. Same-sex marriage in Taiwan became legal on 24 May 2019. This made Taiwan the first nation in Asia to perform same-sex marriage. Though same-sex marriage is legalized, there are still limitations for same-sex couples, including adoption.
LGBT in Malaysia
LGBT/same-sex marriage is not accepted in Malaysia, because it's against with Islam. A 2013 Pew Research Center opinion survey showed that 9% of the Malaysian population believe homosexuality should be accepted by society, while 86% believe it should not.Malaysia was one of the Asian countries polled with the least acceptance. People over 50 years old were more accepting than younger people. 11% of people over 50 believe it should be accepted, 10% of people between 30 and 49 and 7% of people between 18 and 29. Since 2007, there was a slight increase in acceptance. A Pew Research poll showed that 8% of the population believe homosexuality should be accepted.
There is no legal protection for LGBT individuals. Marina Mahathir (daughter of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad) tried to call for an end to discrimination based on sexual orientations in 1998 and 1999. Parti Sosialis Malaysia is the only political party to openly support and defend the rights of LGBT people alongside other minority rights. A contrasting political force is the "People's Anti-Homosexual Voluntary Movement", created in 1998 to lobby for stricter criminal laws against homosexuality. It is a member of the former ruling party United Malays National Organisation (UMNO).
In March 2019, minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mohammadin Ketapi denied the existence of LGBT people in Malaysia. When a Women's Day march was held on the same month, it was condemned by government officials and the political parties of UMNO and PAS. This was beach they thought that the march involved LGBT rights among its demands.
In April 2019, Malaysian authorities were accused for intimidating gay rights activist Numan Afifi because of a speech he made in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHCR) in Geneva in March 2019. In the speech, he pointed out that Malaysia rejected the recommendations of a coalition of 12 Malaysian LGBT organizations on gender identity and sexual orientation.
In May 2019, George Clooney warned Malaysia and Indonesia against legislating a law allowing them to impose death penalty for homosexuality. Our government said that Malaysia does not kill gay people, and will not resort to killing sexual minorities. Although such lifestyles deviate from Islam, the government would not impose such a punishment on the group.
After doing research, I try take notes and do a mind map:
