Based on the brief for GD map project, we have to find another 10 projects ourselves. Therefore, I start doing research online, and here are what I found:

1. Closet in a Forest - H&M

This is a project from H&M which aim to showcase their clothes collections. This project is carried out in a forest. They created a beautiful closet and put it there. In an outdoor space, we designed various scenes in which the nature and clothes coexist, where wardrobes are in full bloom like flowers and fruits and people can enjoy fashion. (The Architecture MasterPrize, 2020)They take a series of photo day and night, and the result is nice and memorable.

This was a exhibition which I am interested with. It look attractive and unique. I think this design is under commercial design. This is because H&M make use of this project to promote their products and they can get profit from it.

2.The Hanger Chair - Umbrai

This is a project which designed by Philippe Malouin for Umbra Shift. This is a chair that different from the usual one. This chair can be folded and transformed into a hanger. When people want to sit on it, they can open it can transformed into a chair; when people are not using it, they can keep and hang it. There are many colour are available, such as grey, yellow, black and so on. It look fashion when it is hanged.

For this design, I would like to categorised it under responsible design. This is because it is useful when we have gathering at home. We can open it to our guests, and we can hang it/keep it when the guests have leaved. Therefore, we need to prepare so many chairs which need spaces to put.

3. Petit Pli - Jet Packaging

This is project about creating a sustainable clothes for kids. The reason of creating this project is they find out that children will grow up 7 seven sizes in two years, and they think it will waste a lot of clothes if the parents keep buying different sizes clothes for their kids. Jet Packaging works this project with Petit Pli. In this project, they use unique origami structure to create a simple robust mailing box.(Derrick Lin, 2019) The parents can explore and let the box transform into a wearable jetpack for kids.

The design for this clothes look cool and I think de progress of transforming the clothes is interesting and fun. However, I am curious about the water resistan of the clothes as it look like a cardboard. For this project, I think it can be categorised under responsible design because it is a sustainable design.

4. 8000 Unique Magazine Cover - MuirMcneil

MuirMcneil has designed 8000 unique magazine covers for issue 94 of Eye magazine. There are two typefaces have been use in this issue, which are TwoPoint and TwoPlus. He use HP Mosaic technology which created by Hp to create these magazine covers. Using a digital printing press and Mosaic, a variable data program (which was also used when Emily Forgot created 2000 unique bottles for Heineken) a different image file was created for each pass of the press, created from a number of ‘seed files’ supplied by MuirMcneil. (Owen Pritchard, 2017) By using this technology, the design can be resized, recoloured, and rotated. Therefore, he can get different design for each magazine cover.

I think this project is under experimental project because the designer want to go through the progresso creating 8000 unique magazine cover. From this design, I learn about we can use technology to help us create many different and unique designs. At first, I thought the designer will create each design by himself but actually not. This is a good example to show us that design can collaborate with technology and create something special and unique.

5. Life In The Dark - Jason Bruges

This is a project about the darkest corners of earth. Jason Bruges has created three installations for this project and these installation are placed at Natural History Museum. The installations combine science with art and technology to bring visitors closer to nature (Life In The Dark, 2018). The visitor can have interaction experiences while they are visiting the installations. The visitor will see a charming multi-layered projection artwork at the beginning. As night falls, the visitors will go through a woodland, and they will see animated foxes, owls and badgers. The visitors can see the animals' nocturnal habits in this installation. Then, they will reach a place which is totally dark, and a bat cave will occur in front of them. In this part of installation, Jason Bruges use the combination of custom controlled LEDs and shadow to show the situation of a colony of flying bats. The last installation is about deep ocean. Jason Burges collects 1500 LEDs for it. These light are use to represent/play the different behaviours exhibited by sea creatures that use light to hunt, hide, reproduce and survive(Life In The Dark, 2018).

6. Greater Palm Springs - Ice Block Challenge

This is a very interesting project which is aim to promote JetBlue’s new direct flights from New York to Palm Springs. This project is carried out on2016, Jan. There are two ice molds with prizes frozen into them were dropped in Manhattan, one in Flatiron Plaza and one in Washington Square Park(Palm Springs Stage the Ultimate Ice Breaker, 2016, March). In this challenge, the people can have a chance to get free airfare as well as accommodations to the desert oasis. There are many prizes in the ice block, such as golf clubs, sandals, pool attire and so on. The people can take whatever they have to crack open an ice block, and the golden ticket (free trip) is placed in one of the ice blocks.

I think this is a commercial design because the company use this project to promote the new direct flights. Even though it is a commercial design, I think it is interesting and this project had helped the company to attract people attention. The way of promoting flights is unique and people can have interaction in this project.

Because of Covid-19 disease, Paul Cocksedge come out an idea and design a picnic blanket to let people can have social distance when they are going to panic. The open-source design comprises a looping section of material in the shape of an outline of a circle and four separate pieces of fabric cut into circles, which can be placed around the outline at six feet apart (, 2020). This design can people maintain two-metre distance for each other.

I think this is a responsible design because it is useful for people in this period. We have to maintain social distance with other people when we want to hang out with them. This design can help us to maintain a safety distance when we want to talk to our friend. It can help us to reduce the possibility of infecting Covid-19. However, I think we should stay at home even though we have this kind of design.

8. KFC x PMC collection - KFC & Pestle and Mortar Clothing

This campaign is worked by KFC and Pestle and Mortar Clothing. They launched a series of clothes that have combination with playful graphic KFC elements and signature streetwear staples. Creative Directors, Jeremy Yeoh and Suryadipura Salleh have mention that this collection is inspired by Malaysians. The design of these clothes are in old school style and based on the culture between KFC and Malaysia. There are11 items in this collection, such as skirt, bag, cap and so on.

I think this project can be categorised under commercial design. KFC collaborated with PMC design a series of clothes. They sell these clothes and earn profits from it. As what I know, these series of clothes already sold out during that time. I like the design of the clothes as you can see Malaysian culture from it. The word that printed on the clothes was can represent Malaysian culture as well.

9. Nike React: Reactland - Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai

This is a campaign that help Nike company to promote cutting-edge new running shoes, Epic Reac. In this campaign, the users can try to wear their shoes and experience sole cushioning technology of the shoes. The designer has designed a virtual video game. The users run on a treadmill and become the heroes of a game. They can run and jump in that game by using hand controller. The further they got, the higher up the leaderboard they went(Nike React: Reactland, n.d). After playing the game, they will get a 10-second video, and they can share the video on social media.

This is a commercial design because Nike company use this design to promote their product so that they earn more profits. This design had help Nike company sold many product after the people join attend to the event. I think one of the reason why this event can be successful is because it is really interesting. The customer can wear on the shoes and play game. If I a a customer, I will be attracted by this event and I would like to try to play the game.

10. The shoes that grow - Kenton Lee

This was a design came for a non-profit organisation. The designer, Kenton Lee came out this idea when he saw a little girl wearing shoes which were too small for her feet, so he designed a pair of shoes for children living in extreme poverty. The shoe that grows has no any mechanical parts or gears to break. There are three sizes available, and each of it can be change into 5 sizes more.

With over 120,000 pair of shoes distributed among 91 countries, the shoe that grows has changed kid’s life, aiding their health, attendance to school and their confidence. (design boom, n.d.)

For this design, I would like to categorised it under responsible design. I think this design is good for the children who are having a poor quality of life. They need a pair of shoes which is sustainable and can be used for a long time. They don't have extra money to buy other new shoes. Therefore, I really like this design as it helps a lot of people.
