Design Disruptors - Reflection (Co-exist, Week 4)

Today, we are asked to watch a film which named "Design Disruption" by InVision. This film is about the power of design in leading digital companies and products. there are many interview in this film are coming from well known brands including Twitter, Netflix, Airbnb, Spotify, Salesforce and so on. They are leading designers in these brands, and they will share their opinion about how the concept of design disruption change the industries.

There are many things that I can learn through watching this film, and some of them are useful and interesting. For example, I learn about "design is making solution, and art is making question". After watching this film, this sentence keep pop up in my mind. As a year two student who is studying design, I feel lost sometimes. I am worried about how to design something which is pretty and attractive. However, after watching this film, I think I should change my mind. Design is making solution, I should design something which is useful and can help people solve the problems they are facing. Besides, in this film, there is a guy teaches us to set a deadline before we start to do a project, so we can know when we gonna complete it. This also what I should learn and do now. It is really important to set a deadline so that you will no miss it. Since I am still a student, maybe I can have late submission for my work but when I become a worker, there is no one will forgive me if I miss the due date. Moreover, try to understand user needs is another useful aspect that I learn from this film. As a designer, we will have our target audiences when we create our product. It will be good if we know what our user needs. We can collect data and user's experience when we are creating product. By doing this, we can improve our design and product.

Furthermore, we may do a design collaboratively, and we will have group discussion. Based on this film, group discussion is sharing our brain together, let us get more ideas. Some people may have conflict with their group mates/colleagues. From what I learn from this film, we should not force the other to agree what we think, we have to communicate with the others. Try to avoid argue, and accept what the others think about. Now, I am having a group project in Advertisement subject. I think I should apply what I have learn when I am doing group discussion. Sharing our ideas. Not only that, I learn that we should get as many ideas as we can when we start to do our project because it maybe works later, just using other ways. For my T&T subject, I am doing LGBT topic. Before I confirm my specific content, I try to get more and more ideas from what I researched. This is because there was someone did this topic before, so I would like to have a topic which is interesting and unique. I think it is true to get more ideas when we start to do something so that we can choose the best idea from it.
