We do not have live lecture class this week, but we will continue having tutorial on Monday and Tuesday. After the last tutorial, I try to do interview and survey with my friends and parents. What I get from my survey are:
Friends who their parents already divorced
1. Girl - 22 years old
She thinks that bad relationship between parents will not affect the growth development of children, if the parents have given enough love and caring. However, if the parents do not show love and care to their children, this may affect the growth development of the children. She believe that education is more important. Therefore, the parents should educated their children well.
2. Girl - 21 years old
Bad relationship between parents may impact children and become a shadow for them. Maybe the children will not trust anyone and get married in the future. The children will think that he/she will not be happy if they get married. Besides, he/she will feel alone if there is no one who cares about her.
Friend who parents relationship is good
Boy - 21 years old
The children may lack of self confidence, lack of love and feel alone. The relationship between families will become very bad. If the children marry in the future, he/she may use the same method to maintain the relationship with his/her partner. The children may go bad if he/she meets bad friends. Not only that, the children may have mental health issues, and he/she may self-mutilate.
My parents
The children will lack of love and he/she will not like to stay at home. He/she may like to hangs out with friends. everyday. The opportunity of they go bad will increase, because they think no one cares about them.. If he/she meets someone who shows love and care, he/she may change and become good again. Bad relationship between parents may affects growth development of children, and they will feel alone. From parents’ point of view,, family love is very important for children.
I have also try to do some research which can help me to develop my photo novel project. I watch the videos which are uploaded on blackboard. I try to take down some notes while I am watching the videos. I have also found another videos from Youtube, so I can further understand about the information or visual techniques. There are two partitioner I have research about, they are Boong Joon Ho and Lawrence Sher. Here are the notes that I write:
The partitioner:
Bong Joon Ho’s Visual Techniques
1. The wide shot
- To isolate the character against the background

2. The overhead shot
- Placing the camera directly over the action gives the audience a”God view”

3. Background vs Foreground
- Create dramatic moments
- Focus is on the emotion of a character

4. Looking into the camera during closeup
- Character look directly into camera
- Connect the to the audience more intimately or empathetically
- It’s a powerful shot

This is video about Boong Joon Ho's visual techniques. Boong Joon Ho is a Korean Cinematography and there are many famous movie are created by him, such as Mother (2009). In this video, we can learn the visual techniques from the movies. I think this is a useful video for me. This is because there are many science and feeling are quite similar to my storyline. I think I can try to use these techniques when I am taking photos.
Lawrence Sher - The Impact of colour in film
1. HUE
2. Saturation
3. Brighting

Other research:
Whiplash vs. Black Swan — The Anatomy of the Obsessed Artist
Act 1: Inciting Incident, Desire, and Dramatic Question
Act 2: Struggle and Sacrifice
Act 3: Transformation and Perfection
This is a video which compare two movie and find some similarities between them. The movie which are used to compare are Whiplash and Black Swan. From my opinion, I think video is good for us because we can learn and make use of it when we are thinking our storyline.
After doing research, I try to think about my storyline. However, I haven't start thinking about the model that I want to use in my photo novel. Here is the summary of my storyline:
A child who came from a poor family, and he would like to attend university in the future. His parents’ relationship was not really good. One day, he found out that his father with another mistress. He was afraid but he did not tell his mother about it. This scene kept popping up into his mind, and he couldn’t focus on his studies anymore. His result became bad as days passed. He started to escape from reality. He hanged out alone, and skipped class. His teacher noticed the problem that he was facing. His teacher started to help him. At the end of the story, he achieved his goal, and went to a good university.
Feedback and suggestion:
- I should go and watch the movie so that I can get more detail techniques and metaphor
- try to apply the information that I get from research to photonovel project
- do survey to get some interesting story, not only about feeling and thoughts
