Week 3 Progress

This week, I have drawn the illustration and layout for the article design. To start drawing the illustration and layout design, I have done some research before doing the design:

1. The choice of colour

I have thought about the background colour when I am doing the layout design. This is because when I find some visual reference on the internet, I find out that there are some article designs that use different background colours for two pages. It will bring different feelings to the audiences when they read the article with a different background colour. And I think it is suitable for my interviewee's story. He looks different when he is in daily conversation and debate. He is introverted and does not like to talk with others. However, when he is in debate, he can talk fluently and he feels confident.

I try to search for the colour which can represent introverted people in order to represent Wei Chun's characteristics. I find that introverted people prefer cool blue and green. Therefore, I plan to use cool blue as the background colour for the article design.

2. Drawing Style

I have also found some visual references for the illustration. Since I'm going to put the background colour, I prefer to draw the illustration in a simple way so that my article design will not be too complicated. Here are some visual references that I have found. As you can see, all the drawing style of these visual references is simple, and all of them are just using one to two colours for the illustration.

After having the research, I started drawing the illustration. Here are some photo of my illustration progress:

Then, I put the content and illustration in the layout design. I have used some guides while putting the content and illustration in Indesign.

Since I'm going to put background colour for the article, I have chosen a few cool blue while I'm doing the design. Here are the colours that I choose:

This week, I have done more research about rubber bands. I found that rubber bands have many uses apart from tie things. It can be used to solve some daily problems, such as using it as a paint catcher, using it to open stubborn bottles, and so on. Not only that, rubber bands can be used to play games, like using it as a jumping rope. Some artists will use it to create artworks, like creating clothes by using rubber bands. Here is the mindmap which I have done after doing research. I try to arrange and write up the content which I would like to include in my EAOT book/magazine.

Since all my rubber bands photos are from the internet, my lecturer asked me to think about coming out with some content which can take photos by myself.

Not only that, I plan to do a survey of rubber bands. Here are the survey question which I have done:

The Professional

This week, I have tried to come out with more sketches for the logo design. For example, I try to draw my name "ELHL" on the hair, try to draw characters in different positions, and so on. Here are the sketches for my logo design:

I think I still need to develop more on it, because I am still not satisfied with it.
