This Wednesday, we have talk which is from Ms Yong Yee. She is the founder of design thinking, and we are going to learn about the mindset and step of design thinking through this talk.

The most interesting from the sharing and he key points that I learned from the sharing

The most interesting is when Ms Yong Yee talk about the example which is about the parking problems in a mall. She mentioned that we have to we should understand the culture when we start doing a project. The example that she give is very simple, but she have listed some things that we usually missed out when we think about this project. For example, she mentioned that e-bike actually need parking as well. This is because there are some places will provide e-bike and people can go the mall by e-bike. Same with other projects, when we are doing the other project, we may missed out something that we are not familiar with so we need to understand the culture before we start doing the project. In this talk, Ms Yong Yee teach us some steps for design thinking. The steps is empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test. However, she also mentioned that we maybe go back to some steps when we are doing the project. For example, when you are testing your idea but you find out the it's not work, you may go back to ideate stage. She told us that empathise include research but you have to explore more and develop deeper that research. Not only that, when we are thinking out idea, we should not focus on the quality first. In the ideate stage, quantity is more important than quality. We should think as more ideas as we can.

How can you bring what you have gained from the sharing into your practice?

I think the techniques that I learn from this talk is very useful. It can be used in every project that I will do in the future. The steps that Ms Yong Yee has provided is good because I believe that we have enough information and research, we will have the ideas. Therefore, the first and second stage can help me to have more ideas. The steps is suitable for me, and I think I am doing the similar things now. I will do research before I start thinking the ideas.

What do you want to know more about on the topic of shared?

I would like to see more examples and designs from Ms Yong Yee. This is because she has mentioned that she already used this technique for 9 years (if I'm not remember wrong). I think she might face many challenges when she are in the first and second stages, and I would like to know how she overcome the problems and challenges. Not only that, as a student, I would like to what method is suitable for us when we are in the first stage (empathise). This I because, most of us will do research online or study articles.

Last but no least, I think this kind of talk is really interesting and I could learned so many things form it. I hope we can have more talks about the how the others designer develop their designs because it is very useful for us.
